The Portugal Day Festival in Newark, New Jersey, commemorates Portuguese people, language, and culture. First organized in 1979 by the Bernardino Coutinho Foundation, this annual event has flourished, drawing thousands of visitors each year to the Ironbound neighborhood.
Tony Nobre, SolMar owner, has been honored as “Man of the Year” and “Grand Marshal” for his invaluable contributions to Portugal Day of Newark for nearly three decades. It has been 26 years since the businessman hosted an unforgettable Portugal Day by SolMar at Ferry Street and Niagara Streets, contributing to the expansion of the festivities.
The Portugal Day by SolMar festival always features an impressive food court, folk group presentations, and exceptional concerts by renowned artists from Portugal. Memorable attractions include fashion shows and comedy performances that delight attendees year after year. Despite pandemic disruptions, the 2022 festival returned with renewed enthusiasm, supported by local businesses and the community.
In 2024, the festival will be even more special, continuing its rich tradition and showcasing our resilience and dedication. The Nobre Foundation Corp was established this year to support educational programs in return for community support.
