In Portugal, the Suckling Pig is a celebrated dish with a rich history. It represents a true labor of love, with the pig traditionally weighing around 14-16 pounds before roasting. After slow-roasting to perfection, it’s reduced to approximately 12 pounds, resulting in tender, succulent meat that’s prized for its flavor and texture. The meal is complemented by sides of rice, crispy potato chips, and a fresh salad, adding a burst of flavor and freshness to every bite.

We also offer classic Roast Turkey for those who prefer the timeless centerpiece of a Thanksgiving feast. A Seafood Extravaganza

Prepare to embark on a culinary journey like no other as we showcase a tantalizing array of oceanic treasures. SolMar’s Seafood Festival will feature an impressive lineup of dishes, each designed to highlight ocean flavors.

Spider Crabs (Santolas): Delight in sweet, tender Spider Crab meat, often featured in creamy crab soups and stuffed crab shells. Their flavor has been described as rich, briny, and slightly sweet.

Portuguese Crabs (Sapateiras): Portuguese Crabs are known for their distinctive flavor, which combines sweetness with a hint of saltiness. They are commonly enjoyed as a snack or stuffed appetizer.

Razor Shell (Navalhas): Razor shells, or Navalhas in Portuguese, have a distinctive appearance resembling straight razors. These elongated shellfish are typically grilled or sautéed with garlic, olive oil, and parsley, allowing their natural briny taste to shine through.

Conch (Búzios): Conch, known as Búzios in Portuguese, is often used in stews and seafood rice dishes. Its meat is tender, slightly chewy, and has a mild, oceanic flavor that pairs well with rich sauces.

Portuguese Clams (Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato): Portuguese clams, particularly Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato, are a popular appetizer cooked with garlic, cilantro, olive oil, and white wine. Sol Mar Restaurant is delighted to announce the second edition of the SolMar Seafood Festival, a culinary event dedicated to highlighting the distinct flavors of Portuguese seafood in Newark, New Jersey from October 6th to 8th. Following the remarkable success of the inaugural edition, which garnered significant interest, the decision to host a second edition was a natural response to customer demand.

The SolMar Seafood Festival has solidified its position as a platform for customers to indulge in nostalgic Portuguese flavors, often unavailable in local restaurants. “The success of the first edition motivated us to continue this tradition, ensuring that seafood enthusiasts can enjoy a wide selection, including some rarely found in the United States,” highlighted restaurant owner Tony Nobre.

The festival, now in its second rendition, aims to present a wide variety of seafood to an even larger audience. The restaurant has already received reservations from other states, such as Connecticut and New York. Delicacies like “Navalhas” Razor Clams, “Santolas” Spider Crabs, “Percebes” Goose Barnacles, “Ameijoas” Clams, “Sapateiras” Giant Crabs, “Lavagante” Lobster, “Lagostinos” Langoustines, and others will be specially imported for the event. Along with a variety of fish, including “Imperador” Emperor Bream, “Goraz” Parrotfish, “Cherne” Wreckfish, and “Salmonetes” Red Mullet, these offerings are an essential part of Portugal’s rich coastal culinary tradition.

Luis Nobre, the restaurant manager overseeing festival preparations, ensures all details are planned meticulously. From logistics to culinary coordination, his efforts guarantee a flawless experience for festival guests.

Over three days, more than 50,000 meals will be served, featuring an impressive variety of Portuguese culinary delights.

The festival boasts an unforgettable lineup of Portugal’s most talented and popular artists.
